For week 4 we had to bring in multiples of one single object. I chose these mini pencils that were $2. We then had to make four objects from just this one material, one had to be dense in construction, one light and open and one had to be a vessel or a container. The fourth had to be structurally harmonious and also had a mystery object, a ping pong ball.
These are my four objects.
I didn't anticipate how hard it would be to cut up the pencils so i ended up just shaving bits off which worked out pretty well in the end. It gave a rigid object some fluidity and shape.
The second part of the class we used whatever materials we had with us to create 10-20 small jewel like objects that were all around the same size and same kind of theme, like animal, mineral or vegetable.
My small objects ended up looking very organic and plant like, probably because I used a lot of neutral colours and materials like small sticks and twine.
